Seminar Overview

This seminar will cover topics directly related to medical and adult use cannabis laws and regulations under the 2008 Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA), the 2016 Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA), the 2018 Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA) which legalized adult use marijuana, the Illinois’ Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (and Illinois’ Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act), and the regulations and policies promulgated thereunder.

Discussions will include a brief history of Michigan and Illinois legalization; taxes and the treatment of cannabis income; real estate, land use and municipal control; intellectual property protections, including trademarks and patents; banking, possible federal solutions, and a banker’s perspective; cannabis investments and security laws; hemp and CBD; the “vape” crisis and related health “crises”; and a case study from the perspective of an operating facility.

Attendees will hear directly from leading practitioners, and non-lawyer experts, about current laws, regulations and practical developments and how they impact the industry.
